OUR PROGRAM

Construct a New Career

Construct offers you a valuable opportunity to learn new skills and begin a career in the trades and construction industry.

About the Program

Cohorts of 8 Trainees will complete an 8-week full-time (40hrs per week) training program. You will earn a $15/hr training allowance.

Transportation throughout the program, to and from classes and job sites as well as safety equipment is provided.

You will receive:

• 2 weeks in-class skills training in trades math, reading comprehension, social skills & work etiquette, writing resumes, job interview techniques, trades skills, and health and safety certifications.
• 6 weeks of on-the-job training to learn and apply your trades skills. Due to limitations with COVID 19, the 6 weeks training is currently taking place virtually.
• One-on-one support for the duration of the program and for up to six months after graduation to assist you in securing a long-term career.
• Additional personal and professional supports generously provided by YMCA
• Intake tool package generously donated by The Home Depot Canada Foundation
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to work on-site generously donated by LiUNA! Local 506
• Meal support for the duration of the program.

Eligibility:

• Grade 10 education or equivalent (those willing to complete requirements towards GED will still be considered)
• Canadian Citizen, Refugee or Permanent Resident status in Canada
• Ages 18+

Applicants will be asked to provide one of the following to be permitted access to the training center during the first two weeks:

Proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 – must have received second dose 14 days prior to program start
OR Negative COVID-19 test result (twice per week)

This portion of the program is a requirement to graduate from the program.

Site Clean-Up & Demolition

During and post-construction site clean-up or kicking off your project; our team will ensure a smooth transition by providing:

Site demolition and preparation:

• Full kitchen removal (cabinetry, tiles, countertops, etc.)
• Full bathroom removal (sink, cabinetry, shower, toilet, etc.)
• Plaster and drywall removal
• Flooring removal
• Popcorn ceiling removal

Site clean up:

• Prepare the site for construction
• Sweep, vacuum and mop
• Clean appliances and furniture
• Polish fixtures and stainless steel
• Remove dust, dirt, and debris
• Co-ordination of schedules to ensure efficiency and
         convenience for completion of the job

• House Repairs: Repairs include windows, doors, tiles, plumbing and drywall.
• Home Maintenance: No job is too small for us to help you maintain your home, property or business.
• Handyman Services: cleaning, junk removal and anything else you can think of.
• Window washing: We will meticulously clean the interior and exterior windows in your home or business. We clean those hard to reach windows and keep you safe by ensuring you won’t have to climb any ladders yourself.
• Roof Repairs: The roof is in many ways your most important protection against water infiltration and significantly contributes to the look and style of your home.
